st. patrick's day. it's almost as big as christmas around here. ok, maybe not that big. let's be honest, nothing can ever really come close to christmas. but it is a big holiday in this house. mainly because of that husband of mine and his thick irish roots. this year marked the 11th st. paddy's day that dan and i have spent together...and although the events of the day have completely changed since those first years together. one thing always remains the same.

the dogtown parade.

i don't think there has been a year that we've missed it. wait, i take that back. i missed it in 2008 because ryan was only 1 month old...but dan was there representing for us.

before i get to the dogtown parade i must first discuss the little parade we went to the day before st. pat's. it is such a fun little parade put on by my grade school. the perfect size for our little gang. meg had the day off so i made her come with me. the rain held off just long enough for the kids to watch the parade go down the street, walk a block and watch it come back up.

one more time...

my little tomboy has asked to wear her "soccer outfit" almost every day since st. pat's. she's a bit obsessed.

it was such a fun morning and the perfect length parade for the 4 and under crowd!

and then we come to the holiday itself. falling on a saturday this year. a celebration in itself back in our partying days. this year all i thought was how the 80 degree weather was going to make for a rowdy crowd! the day started out as it usually does...stopping by the scott's to grab a parking spot and say hello before heading to the parade.

i love it that their shirts from last year still fit. score one for having shrimpy children.

lord only knows what those two are talking about!

after a little socializing we packed up our kids and started out on the trek to tamm...with katie and her best pals leading the way

we found a good spot near the local church and parked it. dan cut a deal with some ladies who had a front row seat to the parade to let the kids sit on their curb once the parade started. so then all we had to do was wait...

and wait...

and wait some more...

may was such a trooper that day. she was awake at the scott's. in the bjorn, looking around and smiling. had a little snack while we waited, then passed out for the parade. what a gal!

finally it was parade time! meg and i took the big girls up to their spot. we were seated next to a humongous dog and a tattooed man with his shirt off. lovely. the gals didn't seem to mind

a little more waiting for the parade to actually make it down to us

tiger lil was over it. she decided to go back to our spot and watch from the comfort of her daddy's shoulders

finally the parade made it to us where the beads and candy were flowing.
ryan was loving it

about half way through the parade a dark cloud rolled in and dan made the executive decision to start our trek back to the car. thank goodness he did because we were just getting on the highway when the rain and hail came pouring down! score one for daddy!

it was another wonderful st. paddy's day in the books.

until next year...
