sarah the elf

7:33 PM

the elf on the shelf has arrived at our house and "her" name is sarah. this is the first year the elf has graced us with "her" presence and ryan is eating it up. the first thing she says when she wakes up in the morning is "i need to find sarah mom!!" although the novelty of "sarah is watching you" has kind of worn off since the first day...it still catches her attention every now and then.

wait, wait, wait...let me back up a minute for those of you who aren't familiar with the elf on the shelf.
the elf on the shelf is a tiny christmas elf who arrives at your house during the holidays. (the morning after thanksgiving at our house) you are given a book that explains the rules of the elf. the kids are told to give the elf a name right away so he can start his mission. which is to watch over the kids all day and report back to santa with all the naughty/nice details. the children are not allowed to touch him for fear that he will lose the christmas magic that helps him fly back to the north pole every night. they are encouraged to talk to him but he is under strict orders from santa not to talk back. he just sits quietly in one spot all day and observes. flies to santa throughout the night and returns the next morning and is in a new spot in the house. genius!

this is our elf
as you can see we have a boy elf...however, try telling that to ryan. maybe it's the long eyelashes but ry believes this elf is a girl elf and has named her sarah. not really sure where that came from...but we're going with it. so far she has been a big hit. lilly doesn't quite understand the concept but she likes to help look for sarah every morning and enjoys waving to her throughout the day. so far sarah has hit some good spots...

the first morning we found her chillin' in the mud room

the next morning she was hanging out at the bar. (a little early to be hitting the egg nog if you ask me!)

the following morning (and this morning...whoops) she was perched on the mantel hood

i can't wait for ryan to find her tomorrow morning. i have a feeling she might like this spot...

if you have children...i highly recommend the elf on the shelf. this is definitely a new christmas tradition in the making...

  1. K ~ They make little skirts for the Elf on the Shelf so Sarah can truly be a she! I got Ellie's elf a skirt last year from Paper-Source up here but I am sure you can google it.

  2. Yes, they do have skirts. I saw them at that gift shop by the new Ashley Furniture west on manchester. Sorry I'm drawing a blank on the store's name. Christopher's probably would have them too I bet. Love Elf. I swear last year he was the reason both boys got potty trained. :) Maggie Potter
