our very first communicant

12:34 PM

i am not entirely sure how...since she was a toddler, like yesterday...but we have a daughter who is old enough to make her first communion.

life is moving fast.

sigh.

as much as i hate to watch my girls grow at an alarming rate...this was a day i was so very excited for. i have been looking forward to this sacrament since she started kindergarten after all. the white dress, the flower crowns...it's the stuff i dream about. i, of course, had big ideas of her wearing my dress but i wanted to let ryan make the ultimate decision...it was her day after all.

after a good dry clean and convincing her how awesome it was to have an heirloom like this, she was on board...and i couldn't have been happier.

this dress is so so special to me. not only because it was the dress i wore on my first communion, but it was also made for me by my nana. when ryan first tried it on last summer, my nana was still with us. she wasn't in great health but she was here. i told her ryan was going to wear the dress and she told me exactly where to take it to get it cleaned up. I was a little nervous because the dress was over 25 years old and had a little stain on it. my nana passed in september and i got the dress back in october looking like new.

i like to think she had a hand in that.

it would have been so wonderful for her to have seen ryan wear it in person, but i know (by the perfectly sunny first communion day) that she was beaming with pride from above.

...and so was i. just look at my big girl!!

shoutout to my cousin (the only one of us grandchildren
who got any of my nana's talent!) for adding this little personal "ryan" touch.

love these pics with some of her pals

then there was the actual day...

cessie gifted ryan another amazing heirloom...the cross she was given at her first communion. ryan was in awe of this necklace. thank you so much, cessie!

ry and her godmother...missing her godfather who sent wishes from wisconsin

we headed back to mass on sunday in their dresses for a special blessing from the parish....and more pictures with friends of course!

it was such a special weekend. thank you to all who helped ryan celebrate.
