christmas

2:28 PM

christmas is over.

the freezing cold days of january have set in and i am sad. it always takes me a few weeks to get out of my christmas-is-over rut. thankfully we have a 6th birthday peeking around the corner which always brightens my attitude.

we really had a wonderful holiday season. even with a nasty stomach bug hitting our house christmas eve/day i can still say it was a great holiday. having young children makes the whole season that much better. especially this year...having a 5 and 4 year old who really get it and are totally, 100% on board with any and all things christmas...it made for a truly joyous season.

the gift-giving extravaganza kicked off on the 23rd with our morning at cessie's house. as you now know (if you've read this blog since last year or the year before) this is a tradition that has gone on for as long as i can remember. santa always makes a special stop at cessie's house before christmas eve to shower us with gifts. i have such fond memories of this christmas tradition. i can close my eyes and still feel that anxious/excited feeling i would get when my uncle would go in another room and make noise as if santa was still in the house! one of these days i need to find some old pictures of those years.

anyway, this year "santa" did not disappoint!

the troops heading downstairs to check out the loot

ryan asked santa for 2 things this christmas. a frozen castle and rebecca. (an american girl doll) as you can see...santa delivered!

he even brought lil a doll of her very own...caroline!

it was an american girl christmas for all the gals.
lilly & caroline, molly & molly, ryan & rebecca

may serenaded us all with her version of "boogie fever" on the violin. the girl has talent...

the patriarch and the baby (for now)

unfortunately my pictures are non-existent when it comes to christmas eve. my favorite night of the year and i have nothing to show for it!

things were totally fine all day. we went to 4:00 mass at sgm then went straight to my mother-in-law's. i was starting to feel a little off there...but just thought i was tired or something. around 6:45 we headed over to my aunt & uncles. the drive over i started to feel worse. i was only there for maybe an hour when the bug hit me...hard. i had to have dan drive me home. i could barely make it to the couch to lay down. he went back to have dinner and get the girls then came home around 9. he woke me up so i could watch the girls put out the cookies/milk....which i barely remember...then he went to work getting all the gifts set up. my absolute favorite part of christmas...staying up late with dan, watching wonderful life and getting the gifts ready....and i couldn't even keep my eyes open. he managed to get it all done and get to bed around midnight...only to be woken up at 3am with the same darn bug that hit me.

needless to say, christmas morning was less than stellar for dan & i...but the girls didn't miss a beat.

ry and lil woke up around 7:15 ready to rip every gift open. however, just like last year, we had to wake sleeping beauty up...girlfriend looooves to sleep!

ryan must have been extra good this year seeing as santa brought her both gifts she asked for! this is the frozen castle. frozen being the new disney movie that is in theaters right now...we have seen it twice. if you haven't, you need to. it is fabulous!

christmas wouldn't be christmas without a christmas story on repeat

we usually go to the hauck side on christmas day. i was really looking forward to it since my father-in-law was hosting this year...but we were a sorry bunch. we opted to stay home and let the girls trash the house instead. dan slept the majority of the day and around 6:30 the bug hit ryan. around midnight it hit lilly. merry christmas to us!

(i forgot to mention that this all kicked off with may getting it early sunday morning...she had no other symptoms except puking so i figured it was from all the sugar she ingested at the cookie party the day before...oooh the cookie party. i need to blog that next!)

thankfully the bug left our house as quickly as it came on. by the next afternoon everyone was on the mend!

we hope your christmas was merry!
