you're a grand ol' flag...

the fourth of july is always such a fun-filled holiday...well, except when it rains.
all. weekend. long.
the weekend started out on a huge high note. friday was a gorgeous evening so we decided to cross a couple items off our summer bucket list. starting out with a ride on the paddle boats and dinner at the boathouse.
this ended up being one of the best nights of the summer.
good old fashioned family fun.
even bird was in a good mood!
this was the perfect way to end a perfect night.

ted drewes first timer.
sharing is caring.
then the rain arrived...and stuck around all day saturday, sunday and monday. bummer city! however, we made the best of it. we had a little pre-fourth bbq at my parents. complete with crafts and flip cup.
yes, i said flip cup. don't worry this was the alcohol-free version, but our kids are already ready for college.
on the actual fourth we had big plans to hit up the webster parade, then swim all day at bellerive and stay for dinner/fireworks. welllll the rain let up for approximately one hour, so....plan b.
the blueberry festival at the daily bread.
the bubble bus is the perfect rainy day activity.

the rain finally let up around 5pm...so we got all tootsed up and made our way to bellerive for the fireworks. they really put on a great fourth party.
this is me attempting to grab a decent shot in their festive attire.
(man, i love me some bella bliss...i went a little crazy with their recent sale so you will be seeing a lot of it on my girls for the rest of the summer. i have a problem.)
strike a pose, baby!
the firework display was wonderful. annie hated it at first but it kind of grew on her towards the end. she woke up the next morning saying "fireworks fun!" over and over. i think she was still talking herself into liking them. may, on the other hand ran for the hills the minute the first boom went off. dan hightailed it to the car and they watched from the parking lot.
we hope you all had a wonderful fourth filled with family and friends and tad more sunshine than us!
