hair's the story...
9:33 PMyes, this is a post on hair. see what I did up there? i know...i'm hilarious.
i'm not talking about my hair, i am talking about my girls' hair. i know this may not seem like a thrilling topic but what can i say? things are kind of slow around here now that we're back in school-mode.
anyway, the girls' hair is something that needs to be discussed because someday they will not be 5 and 4 and 1. someday they will fight me when i try to put humongous bows in their hair. someday they will straighten those beautiful curls to fit in with all their friends who have straight hair. someday they may simply grow up and lose the curls all together.
so yes...the hair needs to be discussed.
believe it or not it comes up in conversations daily. no matter what day it is or where we go someone will always stop me to make a comment on their hair.
take today for example...i had three different people at three different points of the day stop me to make a comment on one or more of my kids hair.
let me telling something else...hearing a perfect stranger tell you your kids hair is beautiful never...ever...gets old.
however there are some points that i would like to make known to all.
1. yes, their hair is naturally curly. this question has been posed to me on more than one occasion...for real. i don't have nearly enough patience to curl 3 heads of hair every day.

2. no, i did not have curly hair when i was little. unfortunately i cannot take any credit for those beautiful heads. yes, mins was wavy as a kid and yes my dad and brother and sister are all curly...but in my opinion the curls are courtesy of the ryan side. i recently saw a baby picture of my mother-in-law with matching ringlets. also, these days ryan and her uncle scott seem to be having a hair-off with all those curls!

3. yes, i fully agree that the girls were all blessed with beautiful curly hair. however, i would be lying if i said i didn't curse said hair (especially ryan's) at least once a week. brushing such thick, curly hair is not a fun activity. so much so that i really only do it once or twice a week. i have also (and will again) taken ryan to get a trim from a professional mainly to get a thorough comb through. worth every penny.

4. the advantage to naturally curly hair is that we usually look "put together" even when i am feeling far from it. pin a big bow in a mess of curls and it looks photo-ready. believe me when i say we aren't always looking so put together...

5. the curls also help to make you look super cute...even with a grumpy face

6. and while it is an enemy to the majority of us...humidity is their friend

the bottom line is the girls are so lucky to have such beautiful hair. that a lot of people would trade them in a heart beat to have curls like that. i want them to be able to look back and see that.
especially when they are flat ironing it straight every day!
