grant's farm...behind the scenes
11:47 AM
if you live in stl then there is a pretty darn good chance that you have been to grant's farm. i have been going for as long as i can remember. a ride on the tram is a summer staple around these parts. however, this particular trip was a little different..
cessie signed us up for a behind the scenes, private tour...and boy was it fun! i think the adults might have enjoyed it even more than the kids.
first stop was to see the clydesdales. we learned a lot from our tour guide, lou. for instance, did you know that not all clydesdales are born with the feathers on their feet...and in order to pull the wagon the horse must have a black mane and tail, a white nose and be completely brown on it's body. poor horses, judged at birth.
after the clydesdales we boarded our own open air tram.
the tram took us right up to the big house...which is incredible up close...and also right up to general grant's cabin.
we were able to go inside and tour the first floor. the kids were such great listeners and enthralled with all the knowledge lou had.
they decided our family's would definitely not fit at that kitchen table
and that they would never want go to the bathroom outside
after the cabin we drove into the deer park and right up to some elk to feed them from the tram.
then over to the pond to feed the koi fish
good old lou taking of selfie...well really he was trying to take our picture but you know how that goes.
feeding frenzy
up close and personal with oscar the ostrich
lou and our driver, wally, dropped us off at the biergarten to enjoy the rest of the farm on our own. first stop is aways to feed those crazy-a** goats.

those things will attack you! they enjoyed some milk...along with ryan's hair and my shorts. lovely.
brendan got the hang of it
this crew watched while the others took a spin on the carousel.
(annie was with us too...in the carrier)

just in time for the elephant show
we finished off the day with some chicken fingers and sno cones!
thank you so much, cessie, for treating us to such a fun adventure day. i honestly don't think we can go back to the normal tour now!
