peace out binky

9:17 AM

ladies and gentleman...boys and girls...i am proud to announce that we are officially binky-free!

for those of you that know may, you know this is a huge deal. that little chick had a serious binky attachment. i'm talking morning, noon and night. if she was awake, she wanted her binky.

after our trip to colorado, where the binky was a permanent fixture in her mouth, i decided enough was enough. she's three years old. the binky has to go!

we had been discussing a few tactics with may for awhile.

"would you want the binky fairy to come take your binkies?"

"would you like sara to take them back to the north pole?"

"would you like to give them to all the new babies at the hospital?"

may's a smart girl...she knew she wouldn't get much from those options. if she was going to part with her beloveds then it had to be something big.

enter build-a-bear.

quite possibly the most expensive stuffed animal you might ever purchase. (man, i wish i had come up with this idea!) however, at this point i was ready to buy may her first car if she'd just give up the damn binky...so a stuffed bear didn't seem so bad.

we grabbed two of her favorite binkies...and her big sisters for moral support...and off to the mall we went.

i used this tactic with ryan as well back when she was 3, so i knew the b-a-b people would make a big deal about this. they let her give her binks one last kiss before tucking them safely in her puppy's feet.

then we gave the pup a nice scrub down...

picked out an outfit (a sofia the first dress & shoes)...

and that was that.

I was fully expecting a bedtime meltdown that evening...but it never came! she did ask to take the puppy back and get her binkies out the next morning, but when I reminded her that she was a big girl and didn't need them, she was fine. she's randomly asked for them here and there the last couple weeks but is easily distracted.

it just goes to show that once again i underestimate my kids. i think it's going to be this huge, awful transition when in reality it's a piece of cake!

so proud of our little bird. only thing left in her big girl transformation is a big girl bed. girlfriend just looooves her crib and sleeps like a log...i'm not messing with that until she asks for it!
