oh christmas tree, oh christmas tree...
3:35 PMahhhh, the christmas tree...one of my all time favorite symbols of the holiday season. some of my favorite memories growing up were the nights when we decorated our tree. it was always a big deal in our house and still is. we would go to the parish lot, walk around for an hour until we found the perfect tree, then head home, throw it's a wonderful life in the vcr and start decorating. we would ooh and ahhh over all the old ornaments and fight to get the one with or picture on the front of the tree. (lisa's picture was the one that always seemed make it front and center...and you all wonder why we call her bossy!) It was always a perfect evening in the sciales household.
an evening like that is one tradition i plan to pass on to my girls...with one exception. rather that scour the parish lots...we bundle up, drive west and cut down our own tree. it's our own little twist and i absoloute love it. i look forward to the first saturday in december every year. this year did not dissappoint. we tried out a new farm and they had a great selection. we wanted to go big this year since our great room can afford the height. it was a frigid december day so we had to make sure we all bundled up.

"what is up with these things on my hands?"
ryan likes that one dad...
the hauck family tree
"molly, do you get these glove things?"
the sweeney family tree...and the boyle family tree
the moms & kids headed inside to warm up while the dads bundled up the trees.
dan scaring the snot out of brendan & ry. of course they loved it.
warming up some more in the car watching toy story
then it was off to our tradional after-tree-hunting lunch at steak n' shake. the sweeney's headed home for naps because they had a little too much fun the night before.
another year and another fabulous tree...pictures to come :)

I am equally committed to driving north to Chaminade, showing Chris the tree I like from the window, letting the hockey kids tie it to our roof rack and head home 10 minutes later! All from the warmth of my car. You have always been an over-achiever though
