update

thought i would give you all an update. dan is home and resting. the surgery went well...the doctor was actually happy to see that it wasn't as bad in there as he thought it would be. i was happy to hear that. he left everything in because it said it was all intact and looked clean. instead of stiching the incisions back up he decided to leave them open this time. he put a vacuum device on dan's shoulder that he will have to wear for the next couple weeks. this will keep the infected area clean and let the antibiotics do their job. dan will have to go back to his office twice a week to get his dressing changed. it sounds like a lot but it just shows you how nasty these type of infections are and how serious doctors take it.

call me crazy but i have a good feeling about this. i think leaving the incision open sounds like a good option. as the doctor explained to me it will give dan's body a chance to heal from the inside out leaving little or no room for the infection to pool up like it has been doing. although it looks pretty nasty, i have confidence that this time will do the trick.

dan has been sleeping since we got home. i'm hoping he is able to get a lot of rest today and wake up with the same positive attitude he woke up with this morning. i have no doubt we will get over this massive hurdle soon and have dan back to himself!

we appreicate all the continued prayers.
