snowy days

7:08 PM

what a winter we have had so far. storm after storm after storm. i am a big fan of the white stuff but it does start to wear on you when you're stuck indoors day after day with two restless kids. with another major storm on our horizon i decided to think ahead and arm myself with some new activities for the girls. my sister told me about a friend of hers who put together these "prop boxes" for her kids. so i thought i'd give them a try. after a trip to michael's (by myself thanks to my fabulous hubby!) i was stocked and ready to go.

the first prop box we put together was a post office box. big hit. ry loved writing letters to all her favorite people and putting stamps on them before mailing them in her mini mailbox. for this box i found the cute mini mailboxes at michaels (dirt cheap since my michaels is moving to their new location.), stickers as stamps, took regular envelopes and wrote addresses on them, let ryan decorate them then laminated them so they can put different stamps on them.

the second prop box we made was an ice cream shop. again...huge hit. for this box i found some styrofoam balls as ice cream scoops, mini pom poms for sprinkles, construction paper cones, bowls, and a tablet to take orders. ryan was taking orders from dan & i all last night and again today after naps. lilly loved playing with the sprinkles.

after awhile lilly lost interest and thought it would be more fun to play peter pan with mommy

tomorrow we're going to put together our flower shop box. pictures to come...

  1. Katie-I LOVE this idea! I wish I would have seen this pre-snow/ice storm! We are for sure going to copy these (when we can leave the house again!). Can't wait to see the flower shop!!

  2. Kelly, these have been fabulous on a day like today! The flower shop has morphed into Ryan being a bride but still very entertaining!
