summer week 3
6:09 AM
week three. what can i say about week 3...
it rained.
all. week. long.
i am still not quite sure how we survived this one. it was easily the longest week in summer's existence. ok, i'm being dramatic...but it really did rain. a lot.
the week started out promising. we had some sunshine on monday morning. i'm so glad we took advantage since that would basically be the only pool day of the week. i was nervous about taking all four to the lodge solo. after all, it seems like all i do this summer is chase annie around making sure she doesn't dive head-first into the deep end. however, now that my big girls are confident swimmers and may will wear her puddle jumper...it's pretty easy to tackle a lodge outing with my gals.
the fact that these two can do the lazy river by themselves is a complete game-changer!

man, i am loving these ages!
tuesday we started tennis lessons on an overcast and overly humid morning. the girls really enjoyed it. the plan was for them to do tennis then go straight to swim team practice but of course the rain started just as tennis was ending and foiled our plans.
(annie looking even more like her nene. #minimj)
on wednesday we hit up story time at the library with everyone else in the kirkwood area.
the big girls also got their first library cards!
thursday we woke up to more rain...but it didn't damper the mood inside because it was lilly's birthday!!! we started the day with our traditional birthday pancakes and singing to the birthday girl while we FaceTime daddy at work. we also found sarah the elf who made a special birthday visit from the north pole. (special thank you to my iPhone for alerting me of her visit the night before!)
since the weather was going to wash away any outdoor plans we had...we decided to have a little indoor birthday fun at the bowling alley. after all, when it rains in the summer...you go bowling. it's just what you do!

everyone had such a great time. annie especially enjoyed the arcade. snapped this pic right before she almost crawled up under that cage. this chick is crazy, i tell you. she does not sit still. ever. the two hour plane ride to florida with her on my lap should super fun. (insert sarcasm) reminds me of my life exactly 6 years ago!
that night we dropped ry and may off at my mom and dad's for a sleepover and took lilly (and annie) out to a special birthday dinner.
after dinner i brought lilly back to my mom and dads so she could partake in the sleepover as well. when we arrived we found these three playing dress up in some old dresses my mom found in the basement. the pink dress was the flower girl dress my aunt wore in my mom and dad's wedding back in 1975.
this was the flower girl dress from my aunt and uncle's wedding in1974
this was the flower girl dress my sister wore in my aunt's wedding in 1981. my uber-talented nana made all three. i just love them all. the vintage feel and i cannot get over that floral fabric.
on friday...yet another rainy day...we headed to the science center to hit up the discovery room. thanks to my handy-dandy membership (thanks john!) we were able to get tickets for everyone at noon. i'm pretty sure everyone else in stl had the exact same idea. the science center was jam-packed! so much so that we almost had to bag the entire outing because we couldn't find parking. thankfully we found a spot just as the rain picked up...and by picked up, i mean a complete down pour. we all sprinted from the car to the front door but still managed to get completely drenched. definitely an adventure the girls will never forget!
thankfully they only let a small number of people in the discovery room...so once we made it there it was so so great. they have a ton of fun new things since the last time we visited.
wild-child
this was so fun. the kids loved making shadows. i believe this is lilly, johnny and patrick.
by the time we left the science center the rain was coming to an end. by the time dan got home it was actually kind of nice out. we decided to take advantage. we drove up to drace park...annie and i dropped the other 4 off and headed back home. they decided to end the week with a little (2 mile) walk/ride home.
annie and i waited for them out front and enjoyed our daily visit from the deer.
although it was a wet week...we managed to make the best of it!
