second times a charm

i am not sure what it is with us and the need to have back-to-back surgeries, but here we go again. after 2 back surgeries (for me) in feb '10, 2 sinus surgeries (for dan) in nov '10, and now...2 shoulder surgeries (for dan) in march '11. yes, you heard me correctly...dan underwent surgery again to fix that shoulder of his this past friday.

he was doing so well the last two weeks...actually starting to feel good. maybe a little too good? like so many of us do when we hear a baby cry, he picked her up. only this time he picked her up with his bad arm and that's when it happened. the "pop" heard 'round the kitchen. it took a teeny tiny lilly to pop the band that was holding his shoulder together. after a trip to doc miller just to make sure, surgery was scheduled for friday, march 18. ai yi yi.

so here we are...4 days post op and this time around has been a doozey. the nerve block they administered to his arm last time lasted almost 3 whole days. this time it lasted about 24 hours...and then the pain set it. needless to say, it was a very hard weekend for dan, but i happy to report that he seems to have turned the corner. he is still hurting and has a long way to go but is keeping his head up and forging ahead. now, if only we could figure out a way for him to sleep at night. one hurdle at a time i guess.

we are looking forward to getting dan back but like he always says, his shoulder is "a long way from the heart" he'll be back to his old self in no time!!
