ski bunnies

another fabulous weekend in beaver creek in the books. it's hard to put into words how fortunate we are to be able to take this mini vacations. i'm sure some peope may think we are crazy for trekking our kids all over this fine country...but we can't help it. traveling is something dan and & i love to do. we love to make memories wherever we go and we hope to pass the desire to see the world on to our children.

on thursday night when we got into town we met up with uncle scottie and headed over to vail village. they were hosting an outdoor bluegrass concert that dan was dying to see. it's amazing how beautiful the evenings are up in the mountains. you almost forget the freezing temps...almost ;)

the long day of traveling proved to be too much for ry...

however, her sissy was still going strong!

lilly loved this sculpture. she was convinced they were bubbles. so we just had to get a pic

on friday morning we dropped ryan off for her first day of ski school. what a big day for our little girl! she had been talking about ski school all week but as soon as we got there she started rethinking things. there were tears when we left her but the instructors assured us that if she didn't calm down in 10-15 minutes they would call us. since we didn't want to go too far...dan, lil & i bummed around the village for awhile.

then, after a little bit of stalking, we spotted our little ski bunny! (next to the instructor)

it brought tears to my eyes watching her out there. she looked so teeny tiny in all that ski gear. i was simply beaming watching my baby girl...coming from a person who didn't learn how to ski until i was 22, i was so proud of her for giving it a try at 3! after a little "ring around the rosie" they took a ride up the magic carpet

then they put on one ski and kind of scooted across the snow. up until this point i was trying to stay "hidden" while snapping pics. but after awhile i got a little cocky and started getting closer and closer. then, what i was trying so hard to avoid, happened. as i was gazing, blissfully at my little girl i noticed her glance my way. i thought to myself, there is no way she can see me through those big old goggles. wrong. we locked eyes and she pointed right at me. whoops. i would later find out from her instructor that this run-in caused ryan to have a minor meltdown. but thankfully her wonderful ski instructors were able to get her out of her funk and she continued on for the rest of the session. whew!

after being spotted i decided it would be a good idea to stay out of sight for the last hour of ski school and spend some qt with my baby.

back to the house we went to warm up and grab the wagon before heading back out to pick up ry.

i have never seen this child look more worn out than after 3 hours of ski school. she literally put her head down on the table at lunch. skiing is hard work for such a little lady.

after we put the kids down for their naps the boys sent selina & i off to the spa for the afternoon so they could spend some time with their girls. what more could you ask for...3 hours at the spa, girls in pj's and dinner ready when we got home. do we have some fabulous husbands or what?

on saturday, rob and aziana headed out to hit the slopes, so the rest of us took a little day trip to vail. we bummed around the village and enjoyed lunch outdoors at the bottom of vail mountain. i have to say as much as i hate that dan is hurt, it was wonderful to have him around all day during a colorado trip. usually he would be tearing up the moutain all day...so we full took advantage of having him around :)
then it was time for the schacht's to pick aziana up from ski school. this big girl took an all day lesson and, from what i heard, she had a fabulous time!

sweet schacht sisters!

saturday night was by far the best night of the trip. after a quick dinner at the house we bundled up the kiddos and headed down to the village to make smores. it doesn't get more fun than sitting fireside on a frigid colorado evening and roasting marshmallows :)

ryan brought his new gf, michelle, over to meet his stl pals. we love when we get to visit with ryan and he loves hanging out with our kids!!

big ry and little ry warming up by the fire

it was another fabulous vacation in the mountains. we hope to make this an annual get together with our california friends. maybe next year we'll make the trek out to them. the fact that they live 15 minutes from disneyland is very tempting...
