cinderella
7:42 PMwe added another member to our family last week. "her" name is cinderella and "she" is a blue male betta fish. yes, male but don't tell ryan that. since she wasn't able to get her beloved american girl doll we thought a real, live fish would be the next best thing. we went for the betta fish because i heard we would have a better chance of keeping it alive for longer than a goldfish...and ry just loved her pretty blue color.
little did we know when we went to the pet store on her actual birthday we would only come home with the tank. apparently you have to get the tank ready before you bring home the fish. who knew? so we went back to the pet store on thursday and introduced cinderella to her new home. the girls love her. that sat at the island for a long time just watching her swim around her new home. at bedtime ryan insisted cinderella sleep in her room so we hauled the whole tank up there. cinderella was swimming merrily and ryan was thrilled to have a new roommate. all was well with the world...
until the morning.
when i got ry out of bed i noticed cinderella wasn't swimming as merrily as she had been the night before. thankfully ryan is young enough not to see what i saw. she simply fed her some food and we went on with our day. as we headed upstairs for naptime i noticed cinderella wasn't moving at all anymore. dear lord. how did i manage to kill this darn fish in just 12 hours??? again, ryan was clueless...thank goodness! she was convinced cinderella was just "sleeping". she didn't bat an eye as she blew her a kiss and snuggled into bed for her own nap.
i immediately call dan and tell him the news. tell him he needs to go to the pet store on the way home and get a new one. only one problem when i call the pet store and tell them we got the fish last night and the thing is already dead, she said i had to bring in the receipt and they will give me a new one. the receipt was, of course, in my purse. thankfully i catch my mom on her way home from school. she comes straight over to sit with the girls as i run up to petsmart...receipt in hand. i get there only to find out in order to get the free fish i had to bring in the dead one. just great. that would've been nice of them to mention that when i called. thankfully the fish are cheap so i just bought a new one and headed back home to make the switch without ryan knowing any better.
success! i am happy to report that heading into day 4 the new and improved cinderella is alive and well...and even happier that ry has no clue a switch was even made! whew ;)

ReplyDeleteHi Katie, I have been a total blog creeper so I figured I should finally comment! I've totally been there! We went to get the kids fish a couple of years ago and they were so excited and then we went home with just a tank to prep...total bummer! Good luck with Cinderella pt. 2!
